Designers and artists gathered from all over the globe for the 1Love1Word Communication Design event that was held in Melbourne, Australia late April. Designz by Jamz Creative Director, Jamie Carter is from Melbourne and took serious interest in the event and project. Continuing the 12 years old tradition of celebration, the ICOCD held a series of events focused on the importance of communication design.

Started in 1991 Communication Design Day was originally known as World Graphics Day, and only since 2012 has been known as its current iteration. This year’s event included such amazing events as the ‘designer hackathon that brought together people from all different disciplines to solve local and global issues

1Love1Word embodies the spirit of Communication Design Day. Artists, designers, and creative types all gathering in one space to help solve the world’s problems is an act of love. Events like these are a reminder of our responsibility to one another, but more importantly a reminder of the obligation of the artist to be a leader and problem solver.

This year’s event was hosted by the International Council of Communication Design (ICOCD), which was found in 1963. For 50 years, the ICOCD has been promoting and celebrating design. With this year’s event, they hoped to show that we can find congruity in differences. They sought to prove that multidisciplinary collaboration opens the door to new solutions.

At the end of the event one thing is clear—the underlying goal of design and communication won out. Not clear at first glance, girding the entire process of design and communication is love. This year’s Communication Design celebration truly lived up to its name, 1Love1Word.

  1. I have never heard of this but it sounds really cool. How can a non-artist get involved as far as donations and volunteerism?
