Trending Tips For Fashion Logos and Labels

Fashion is a high-flying, fast-pace visual art business that emerged from innovative visual expressions from society and popular culture. An industry like this demands remarkable vision. Font, imagery and color are the three vital aspects to consider when designing fashion logos. These three must not only be complimentary to each other, working in sync, but in addition to this, must emulate and the business and fashion brand these elements represent.

If your wish is to design a logo for a label within the fashion industry, usually there is a little more room for creativity and experimentation, whilst still maintaining a professional image. For some serious businesses like public service and banking, the choice of font, colours and styles would be quite different to that of the fashion industry, depending on the brand. Since the fashion world relates to style and current trends, graphic designers can generate an outstanding design by bestowing the industry with stylish and unique logo designs for each desired market.

Choice of Font

There is an endless array of websites that offer free fonts for designers to play around with when designing a fashion logo, no matter what style you are going for. More feminine and elegant styles can often incorporate script, cursive fonts to portray luxuriousness. On the other hand, designers may be focusing on more quirky, contemporary fashion brands, thus you may wish to search for unique sans-serif fonts. Also do you prefer ALL CAPS or lowercase? In each case, you must consider readability, legibility and character — chose a font that is suitable to the overall tone of your product and true essence of your brand values.

Choice of Imagery

In addition to looking at the font style, another point of interest may be to look at incorporating a symbol that best represents the fashion brand. Look at the brand’s latest collections, detailing in the garment designs, are there any cohesive elements worth standing out? Perhaps, for example a fashion designer incorporates funky and stylish buttons on all of their garments, or ruffles, one could use the shapes or visuals of these to tie in with the logo.  Think of visually appealing elements to play around with to get the best result. Be sure that it is a true representation of what the fashion label is all about — at the end of the day a logo is the voice of a business, the first point of interest in most cases.

Choice of Colour

Another very important aspect of logo design, is the choice of colours. A top tip would be to create the logo in black and white first, before experimenting with different colour palettes.  This will aid in making sure you focus on the important and finer details before adding distracting colours to letters or symbols. Similar to the importance of the choice of font and imagery, think of colour as another vehicle for expressing and endorsing what your fashion brand is all about. What do you want to say to your potential customers? How do you wish to be portrayed by the public?

Fashion Logo Design Example

Below is a logo I recently designed for the clothing label, Donnah. The fashion designer was looking for a new logo that was feminine, stylish, elegant and incorporated an element of luxuriousness to the overall look. The choice of font is simple, yet stylish, with the swirl on the “D” enhancing femininity, along with the swirls coming out from the brand name, signifying growth and flourish. The choice of colours; grey, peach and white complimentary combine to create a softness, warmth and relaxed emotion.

  1. I think that having the right font makes a world of difference. Although some might not notice it, I do and I think that when the font is wrong, everything else looks out of place also.
